FPSO Ventures Sdn Bhd’s (FVSB) parent company, MISC Berhad has started their conversion project of FSO Benchamas 2 for Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd at Pasir Gudang, Johor recently.
The contract for the FSO Benchamas 2 was secured through an international competitive bidding process and is valued at approximately USD230 million for duration of 10 years with Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd having the right to extend for up to 5 extensions of one year each.
The donor vessel is an Aframax tanker, Bunga Kelana 5, which was built in March 1999. She has DWT of 105,400 tons and can store approximately around 750,000 barrels of crude oil. Conversion work is expected to be completed for its sail away to the block off Thailand in the first half of 2018.
The charter deal represents MISC Berhad’s and FVSB’s maiden foray into Thailand’s offshore oil and gas sector. FVSB’s scope of work covers pre-operations (Operations Readiness and Assurance), offshore marine operations and maintenance (O&M), systems maintenance, classification and regulatory compliance, technical and non-technical support.
